Why our vegan design is the best choice for children and the environment
When we design new backpacks at Little Who, we don’t just think about cute animal faces, child-friendly shapes and cheerful colors. It’s also important to us to take responsibility. Responsibility for little shoulders that carry something big: our future. That’s why our backpacks have been completely vegan from the very beginning, from the faux leather to the inner lining.
What might sound like a simple design choice means much more to us: it’s a sign of appreciation. For animals, for nature, and for the little humans who go on new adventures every day with their backpacks. We use high-quality, durable polyurethane-based faux leather. It looks almost exactly like real leather, feels soft, and contains no animal-based materials. That way, our animal friends like Henri, Rosa and so on can be worn with a clear conscience. Plus, the material is especially easy to clean and long-lasting.
The inner lining of our backpacks is made from 100 percent recycled PET bottles. This gives plastic waste a second life and turns it into a reliable everyday companion. We ship all our products in a climate-friendly way using DHL GoGreen. Each backpack is lovingly packed in reusable cotton bags. For the sake of the environment. Sustainability is not a trend for us but an essential part of every seam, every cut, and every little zipper detail. Because we believe that things made with love should also be made with love for the planet.
We also take a different approach to design. Our backpacks are gender-neutral so that every child can feel seen, whether they love playing with dinosaurs or picking flowers. The simple, Nordic-inspired shapes and colors are easy to mix and match and stay timeless even after many months.
Despite all the attention to detail, our focus is always on everyday life. Our backpacks are lightweight (starting at just 455 grams), come with soft padded straps, and offer enough space for a lunchbox, water bottle, and favorite cuddly toy. And if something spills, no problem. A damp cloth is usually enough to clean the vegan material. We also offer matching chest straps that give children extra support.
